OUR GEAR
jMike' s guitars and amp rig were managed and loving cared for by Chris Wyrick.....God bless his soul.
Back in the day, my main rig consisted of a 1969 Gibson Les Paul Professional, a low impedence
prototype for the Les Paul Recording. Later I began my association with Luthier Craig Hoffman. Craig
did maintenance on all of PKM's guitars and basses. We started hanging together alot and he offered
me an endorsement deal. He made a Michael Gardner Model which was the "PKM" guitar. I also have a
Hoffman Telecaster that smokes like the MG Model. I also favored a Gibson 1970s reissue Explorer.
That guitar had a Louisville Slugger huge baseball bat neck. It sounded great.
Amp wise, when PKM first formed I played through a vintage white, brown faced Fender Tremolux.
Serial # 004. I was using an old aluminium covered road-worn "Nantucket" 4 X12 cabinet loaned to me
by none other than Tommy Redd. The Tremolux was a nice amp but not enough power to carry the
load with PKM, so I moved to an old Musicman HD 130, an all tube very loud amp that wound up being
bought by Sidewinder. Next in line was an amp I lovingly call Frankenstein. It was a 50's Fender Tweed
Deluxe that had been "Boogie-ized" by Zion Guitars. I used that along with a pair of old Marshall 100
watt cabs, loaded with "Green backs". Eventually I was able to spring for a Mesa Boogie MK 3 and I
used that until the end of the band. I also added my 1953 Les Paul Jr. which, by the way, was the 12th
one ever made. That guitar is better than Viagra. I also owned a L6S Gibson that I traded for a
Japanese Sunrise Fender Stat.
Kenny here....with my Back in the Day PKM kit details!
While still in Nantucket I had scored an endorsement with GRETSCH drums. By the time PKM formed,
the GRETSCH brand had been bought and sold several times, and I eventually became lost in the
shuffle. But I still had those two great white kits, which I combined for PKM. Chris Wyrick (r.i.p.)and
Dave Clemmer both looked after my gear as well, depending on the year!
